An important part of any Siebel developer’s job is to work with .sif files by exporting/importing objects from one environment to another or between several local machines.
One day I wanted to export some objects to the server I realized that the option of my local Siebel Tools did not work.
Even after several attempts, reboots and other juggling typical of any consultant desperate not to know why it happens, I could not make the option “Add to Archive…” of my Siebel Tools work.
Then I had 2 options:
– Reinstall Siebel Tools
– Find another option to save the objects.
Discard the option to reinstall the software because you did not have enough time and the objects had to be uploaded to the server as soon as possible.
I opted to look for another option to generate the .sif files and found another way to do it. Not only does it generate the desired files but it also creates them in folders by types of objects (Applets, Business Component etc.) with which it can come in handy to have everything better structured.
I have followed the steps:
1. Have all objects locked in Siebel Tools
2. Click on the Tools menu and choose the option “Generate Mid-Release…“
3. In the new window opened in we chose the option “One sif per object” that will generate a sif for each blocked object.
4. We write a label in the Mid Level -Release Label
5 field. Click on the “Generate List” button
6. Finally we press the “Export” button and finally we have all the .sif files
Files are saved in folders by object type in the path “Tools/ADM//“
There is no longer any reason not to upload your items on time.
